Their Story

Hypoallergenic Siberian Kittens: Not Just Your Normal Cat

The regal Siberian cat breed is a glamorous native feline from the forested area of northern Russia. The subarctic climate no doubt contributed to this cat’s long, thick, protective coat.

The Siberian cat is highly affectionate with family and playful when they want to be. As maturity is not reached until about age 5, Siberians remain quite playful much longer than other breeds. These cats will gladly participate in whatever you’re doing, rivaling even the dog in loyalty. They are also highly intelligent and very trainable. They can greet you at the door, come when their name is called, play fetch and more. Siberian cats are quiet–just an occasional soft “mew” to get your attention.

Hypo-Allergenic:  There is a lot of confusion as to what hypoallergenic means. It does not mean that something is “allergy free”. Hypo means under or less. Thus hypoallergenic means less allergy causing.

Siberian cats generally produce less Fel-D-1 Protein in their saliva which is what activates most peoples’ allergies. When grooming themselves their saliva dries on fur and skin, flakes off and travels all over the room. A totally allergy free cat is not possible, but this is very possible in a hypoallergenic Siberian cat. For many allergy sufferers this means that they can finally have a cat in their lives.

If you have allergies and are searching for a cat it is important that you realize that even a hypoallergenic cat can require special care in order to prevent your allergies from becoming worse. Bathing your Siberian cat monthly will reduce allergens. Vacuuming often to limit hair build up around the house. Feeding a well balanced natural food diet so they maintain a healthy coat to reduce shedding. Sniff test options can be discussed with Legrand Siberians staff.

Lastly, but extremely important for allergy sufferers, is to create an allergy free safe haven for sleeping. This means that you cannot allow your pets to sleep in your bedroom.

Hypoallergenic Siberian Kittens Activity

Appearance:  Siberian cats are one of the most handsome breeds with rounded full face and compact body. Their back legs are strong and tufts of fur wrap big paws in warmth. Classic features are delicate wisps of fur in their ears with fur points at the top. A huge neck ruff and a beautiful long full tail makes them look very regal. These characteristics are present in Legrand Siberian kittens as the parents’ pedigrees record Russian championship lines.

Easy Care:  Siberians “molt” in the spring and then experience minimal shedding the rest of the year. Their triple layered fur consists of a soft under coat with a less dense but waterproof top coat. Finally long guide hairs keep the coat almost maintenance free. Their fur makes them look bigger than they actually are and is the perfect defense against winter’s chill. Springtime is the best time to thoroughly de-shed your pet, following with a shampooing. The Legrand Siberians staff will happily recommend the best shampoos and products for healthy lustrous fur.

LeGrand is a small country cattery, and all our cats actually live in our home as pets, as do our kittens for as long as we have them!
